How to turn off Apple Intelligence on all your Apple devices

Popular Science

With the latest versions of its software--specifically iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS Sequoia 15.3--Apple has now turned on Apple Intelligence by default. That means all of the associated AI tools will be ready and waiting to help you as soon as you've installed the updates and restarted your device. However, Apple isn't (yet) forcing you to use all of these features, and you can still turn off Apple Intelligence, if you'd like to. Note that if you've previously turned Apple Intelligence off on your device, the iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS Sequoia 15.3 updates won't suddenly turn it back on--your previous choice will be respected. If you're new to Apple Intelligence and want to know what you're dealing with, it's a suite of AI features covering just about every app on your phone.

iOS 18.2 is here with Apple Intelligence image generation features in tow

Engadget

Apple has begun rolling iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 to iPhones and iPads. The updates bring with them major enhancements to the company's suite of AI features, and are likely the final software releases Apple has planned for 2024. More Apple Intelligence features are available through macOS 15.2. However, note access to all of the AI features mentioned below is limited to users in the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK for now, with support additionally limited to devices with their language set to English. Provided you own an iPhone 15 Pro, 16 or 16 Pro, one of the highlights of iOS 18.2 is Image Playground, which is available both as a standalone app and Messages extension.

The wait is finally over. Apple Intelligence is making its proper debut with the public releases of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1. Typically, point-one versions of Apple operating systems add minor features and fix bugs, but the Apple Intelligence features weren't quite ready in time for the rollout of iOS 18 et al. You'll know you can use Apple Intelligence when you get a notification from the company. The initial generative AI features you can check out include writing tools like proofreading and rewriting, as well as text summaries.

Apple Intelligence is here, as part of the iOS 18.1 developer beta

Engadget

Don't call it AI, but Apple's long-awaited take on artificial intelligence is finally rolling out today. The developer betas for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1 just dropped, and they include some of the first Apple Intelligence features available to a broader, public group of testers. To be clear, this isn't the full release that was rumored to be delayed till October. These updates are part of an early preview for developers to test. Starting today, those with Apple developer accounts will be able to update their software and go into their settings to see a new option for Apple Intelligence.

The Morning After: Apple Intelligence may not arrive with iOS 18

Engadget

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple Intelligence may not be part of September's public releases of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. According to Gurman, Apple is planning to introduce Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1, out by October. It's not all bad news: The betas for these -- with some of the AI features -- will reportedly be ready for developers as soon as this week. A lot of the most exciting software features teased seem to require the might of Apple Intelligence. When the company's take on AI does finally arrive, it may not offer everything teased at WWDC: An AI-powered Siri should arrive later.
